ABOUT LANAS MOZAMBIQUE
Lanas items are handmade with exquisitely diverse capulanas, vibrant fabrics and lots of enthusiasm!
Lanas brings together 5 young women and men, all trained as tailors in local community centres in different districts of Maputo. Their talent, aspirations and energy are the driving forces of Lanas. Lanas is driven by socially equitable and responsible ethos and ultimately aims to promote and support the self-reliance of the youth involved.
It all began in the Mozambican winter of 2014, with the desire to create unique and practical capulana items, which were not found on the market. The young tailors were trained to produce the unique lanas products and we sold them 3 times a year at Maputos crafts markets. The demand for our products increased and in November 2016, Lanas garage shop opened its doors at 16Neto Co-working and Cultural Space.
From the onset, the goal was to hand over the creative and managerial ownership of Lanas to a core group of young tailors. Half of the shares were transferred in 2018 to two tailors who have been with Lanas from its beginning. Since mid 2019, the company is fully owned and managed by four of the tailors.
